World
Alder started in a Braamfontein studio in 2024, when a design team got tired of boards that ghosted after six months and frames that bent in the courier van. We make the kind of whiteboard we wanted to buy: porcelain steel or glass, nothing cheaper, in frames that survive a move.
Every product on the site is drawn by hand before it is photographed, because a board is only ever a surface for someone else's drawing.
Where the boards are made
Steel boards are pressed and framed in Johannesburg. Glass is tempered in Cape Town and back-painted in our workshop. Markers and erasers come from a partner in Germany who refills instead of replacing.
Who uses them
Startups, three universities, a few hundred classrooms and more kitchens than we expected.
